The Memphis Black Arts Alliance (MBAA), a South Memphis community staple that sits in the SoulsvilleUSA gateway, has served intergenerational artists and arts lovers for over 35 years.
The MBAA is more than a place that preserves the legacies of legends such as former faculty members Rufus Thomas and Carla Thomas, the MBAA celebrates and advance today’s creative expressions in an attempt to give voice to the concerns and ills that plague the Greater Memphis community. The MBAA creates platforms for solutions to be realized, heard and seen, therefore compelling progressive activity rather than destructive.MBAA desired to further its appeal to its growing younger and more diverse demographic while respecting the organization’s heritage. Based on a strategy developed by Channing Bailey and his team, Channing & Co. carefully reviewed each element of the existing brand, looking at its design ethos, its artists, and items that are sacrosanct like the original logo, and the unique relationship it maintains with its patrons.
